Chung Hwa Kindergarten Likas was established
in 1946 by the Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce. Through
the untiring efforts of its Board of Directors and staff, the kindergarten
was nurtured to what it is today ... a well-established and sizeable
institution. |
The
kindergarten occupies two-acre prime site in the Likas Educational and Cultural
hub. The kindergarten is well laid out amidst a garden setting, providing a
conducive educational environment.
The children's playground is an integral feature of the kindergarten in line
with the pursuit of mental and physical development of the child in addition
to other modern amenities.
The classrooms are spacious, well lit and decorated with attractive murals consistent
with providing the correct ambience for proper child grooming. The kindergarten
adopts the motivational teaching approach whereby the pupils are assessed on
their progress on a regular basis. Teaching methods and study contents are tailored
to the intellectual capacity and pace of learning of the children.
The fundamental aim and objective of Chung Hwa Kindergarten
Likas is to lay a good foundation for the aptitude to learn physical, mental,
social and aesthetic development of the children, preparing them for a full-pledged
education.
The curriculum is given a provision on hands-on activities, sensorial
experiences and construction ; for example art-craft activities,
physical exercises, science experiments, mathematical problem-solving,
and expressive arts. The curriculum also includes Chinese, Bahasa
Malaysia, English, Moral, Mathematics, Natural Science, Computer,
Han Yu Pin Yin, Phonics, Reading, Writing, Singing, Storytelling,
Art & Craft, Drawing, Physical Education, Music and Movement.
Its main aim is to help improve the children's second languages
( i.e. Chinese, Bahasa Malaysia, and English ).
Chung Hwa Kindergarten Likas has a hardworking and conscientious teaching staff, many of whom have served for many years. To constantly upgrade its tutorial quality, the kindergarten organizes regular training programmes for its teachers, conducted by qualified lecturers engaged from within the country and overseas. The teachers are also encouraged to improve their own qualifications through further education in order to master the latest teaching and counseling expertise.

Chung Hwa Kindergarten Likas established a high-standard Nursery. We have half and full day sessions catering for children from year and a half to three years old. Its focus is on education and nutritional care. The children are guided on various aspects such as health, educational traits, rapport with other children and their relation with parents. The centre is well-equipped with 3 children's activity rooms, 4 learning corners, 2 mini playgrounds, 2 air-conditioned bedrooms and a large dining hall. |
